(at around 43 mins) When Will Turner goes to help break out Jack Sparrow from the prison cell at the beginning of the film the bars of the cell are welded together with modern welds not invented until the 19th century. The signature of George I on Norrington's orders dates the films to at least 22 years later. The films place the Governor's Mansion in Port Royal, but that city was almost entirely destroyed by an earthquake in 1692, at which time the capitol of Jamaica was moved to Spanish Town. Cannon in the age of sail did not use explosive shells. (at around 29 mins) When the Black Pearl attacks Port Royal, huge explosions occur wherever her projectiles impact.
Granny Smiths originated in Australia in 1868, around a hundred and fifty years after the events of the film. Barbossa is seen holding a Granny Smith apple, throughout the movie.
